Poll results: BND readers in southwest IL vote on their favorite sports month of the year
Summer is still in full swing. However, football season and fall are not far off on the calendar.
In this regard, the latest Belleville News-Democrat poll wanted to know what your favorite sports month of the year is. Here were the choices:
- SEPTEMBER: College and pro football are in full swing while the MLB playoff races hit the home stretch
- OCTOBER: The MLB postseason takes center stage, while the NHL and NBA seasons kick off. College and pro football again continue full throttle.
- NOVEMBER: College basketball starts and college and pro football are on the tube. More specifically, Thanksgiving offers a treasure trove of college basketball tournaments and big college football games. Also, the NBA and NHL offer a full menu of games.
- DECEMBER: College football conference championship games, the Army-Navy game, college bowl season, NHL hockey, NBA hoops, and the stretch run of the NFL season are among the highlights. Also, locally, the annual Braggin’ Rights game between Illinois and Missouri around Christmas.
- JANUARY: The NFL playoffs take the spotlight, while college basketball gets knee deep into conference season.
- MARCH: College basketball conference tournaments, the NCAA Tournament, along with the start of MLB spring training, NHL games, NBA games.
- MAY: NHL playoffs, NBA playoffs, MLB is in full swing.
- Another month not listed.
And the winner was ... October, taking 40% of the votes.
The poll closed at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
