Poll results: Here’s the high school baseball player of the week in southwest Illinois
Evan Davis of Waterloo High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Baseball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
In recent action, Wright, a junior shortstop, Davis went 4-for-7 with 4 RBI in a doubleheader sweep of Civic Memorial. He then went 3-for-7 with 1 RBI in two games against Mascoutah. Entering the weekend, Davis was batting .481 on the season with 12 doubles, 5 triples and 24 RBI.
Davis tallied 79% of the votes to finish ahead of other BND nominees Daniel Darin of Gibault Catholic High School, John Rea of Triad High School, Spencer Stearns of Edwardsville High School and Kannon Walker of Belleville East High School. The poll ended at 11:59 p.m. Thursday.
