Poll results daily double: West star again Boys Player of the Week in southwest IL

For the second-straight week, David Marshall Jr. of Belleville West High School is the winner of the Belleville News-Democrat Boys Player of the Week high school basketball poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent games, Marshall Jr., a junior guard, averaged 16 points, 6 rebounds, 2 assists and 1 steal per game in helping the Maroons to a 2-1 mark from Jan. 9-14, which included a last second loss to Edwardsville (46-45) and victories against O’Fallon (56-49) and MICDS (66-59).

Overall, Marshall Jr., who secured 72% of the votes, entered weekend action averaging 11.6 points and 4.4 rebounds per game.

Here were the other candidates for the week of Jan. 9-14:

  • Bennett Briles, Nashville High School, senior, F. Briles posted 23 points, 9 rebounds, 2 assists and 4 blocks in a 71-49 win against Greenville; 21 points, 4 rebounds and 2 blocks in a 69-44 win against against Anna Jonesboro; and 21 points and 7 rebounds in a 53-51 win against Carbondale.
  • Rini Harris, O’Fallon High School, junior, G. Harris scored 15 points in a 56-49 loss against Belleville West and 20 points on 6-of-6 shooting from the field in a 63-41 victory over University City.
  • Myles Liddell, Belleville West High School, junior, F/G. Liddell averaged 15 points, 5 rebounds, 1 steal and 1 block per game in helping the Maroons to a 2-1 mark last week, which included a last second loss to Edwardsville (46-45) and victories against O’Fallon (56-49) and MICDS (66-59).

  • Dylan Murphy, Columbia High School, senior, F. Murphy posted 19 points in a 81-36 victory over Wood River and 20 points in a 59-57 win against Cahokia.

  • Jordan Pickett, Belleville East High School, senior, G. Pickett posted 32 points in a 72-71 loss against East St. Louis and 21 points in a 54-46 victory at Collinsville.

  • D’Necco Rucker, East St. Louis High School, senior, G. Rucker posted 17 points in a 72-71 win against Belleville East and 16 points in a 77-53 loss vs. Moline.

  • Carter Schoenherr, Nashville High School, senior, G. Schoenherr notched 21 points, 5 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal in a 71-49 win against Greenville; 14 points, 8 rebounds, 6 assists and 1 steal in a 69-44 win against Anna-Jonesboro; and 4 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and 1 block in a 53-51 win against Carbondale.

The poll ended at 8 a.m. Friday.
