Poll results: Belleville West junior BND Softball Player of the Week in southwest IL
Aubrey Weaver of Belleville West High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Softball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
Weaver, a junior left fielder, is the Maroons’ leadoff batter and entered the weekend batting .459 with 8 RBI, 6 stolen bases and an on base percentage of .574. She secured 77% of the votes.
Here were the other candidates for the week of April 3-8:
Sophia Boente, Belleville West High School, senior, SS/2B. Boente had 3 hits and 4 RBI in a 16-5 win against Waterloo. Boente also had 3 hits and 2 RBI in a 23-9 win against Granite City.
Serenity Childress, Belleville East High School, junior, 2B. Childress was 13-18 last week (.722) with 9 runs scored and 7 stolen bases. She is currently hitting .628 on the season through 14 games and has 27 hits, 22 runs, and 18 stolen bases.
- Addi Dilley, Red Bud High School, junior, SS. Through Thursday, Dilley was hitting .500 on the season (11-for-22). In recent game action, Dilley was 9-for-11 with 7 RBI and 7 runs scored. She the followed that with a 2-for-5 output, including 2 runs scored.
Maddy Huels, Mater Dei Catholic High School, sophomore, INF. Huels had 2 hits in a 15-0 win against Hillsboro and 3 hits and 2 RBI in a 7-3 victory over Triad.
Ellie Lowe, Mascoutah High School, junior, SS. Lowe is batting .429 and has 3 home runs and 11 RBI. Also a member of the track team, Lowe has been starting at shortstop since her freshman year.
Mia Miller, Waterloo High School, junior, P/INF. Miller fired a perfect game at Collinsville on Saturday, April 8, while posting 13 strikeouts. According to coach Matt Mason, one one ball was hit fair (a looping liner to shortstop). The other out was a pop up to the catcher.
Delaney Morio, Mascoutah High School, senior. Morio hit a home run in a 15-12 loss against Centralia. Morio then had 3 hits and 2 RBI in a 20-10 win against Granite City.
Riley Nelson, Edwardsville High School, sophomore, P. Nelson notched 10 strikeouts in a 16-2 win against Alton while allowing just 3 hits..
Samantha Roulanaitis, Freeburg High School, junior, P. Roulanaitis is hitting .568 with 4 HRs and 23 RBI is 13 games On the mound, she is 9-1 with 1 save and a 0.89 ERA. In recent action, Roulanaitis belted a homer in a 5-2 win against Waterloo. She also pitched a 5-hitter in a 10-0 win against Salem.
Ava Wagner, Red Bud High School, freshman, INF/OF. During a recent doubleheader against Fairfield, Wagner went 4-for-6 with 6 runs scored and 6 stolen bases. She followed that with a 4-for-5 performance with 3 RBI and 3 more stolen bases. According to Red Bud coach Brian Boeving, Wagner “has been a massive spark plug at the top of the lineup.” Since April 1 through the weekend, Wagner was batting .680 (17-for-25), an on base percentage of .742 with 17 runs scored while stealing 14 bases in 14 attempts.
