Poll results: Belleville East senior BND Baseball Player of the Week in southwest IL
Joe Mendiola of Belleville East High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Baseball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
In recent action, Mendiola, a senior infielder/pitcher went 8-for-15 with 2 doubles and 2 RBI. Overall, Mendiola, who secured 78% of the votes, entered the weekend batting .444 with 1 homer and 14 RBI and an on base percentage of .528 and a slugging percentage of .733.
Here were the other candidates for the week of April 3-8:
- Brady Coon, Triad High School, junior, P/IF. Coon had 3 hits and 1 RBI in a 10-0 win against CBC. He then had 1 hit and 1 RBI in a 6-1 win against Granite City.
- Nathan Dima, Belleville West High School, junior, P. Dima pitched a completed game while posting 6 strikeouts in a 1-0 loss against Belleville East. Dima also had 1 hit in a 2-1 win over Salem.
- Jacob Flowers, Civic Memorial High School, freshman, P. Flowers had 7 strikeouts in an 8-5 win over Wood River.
- Bryce Lemp, Collinsville High School, junior, P/OF. Lemp had a single, triple, and 3 home runs at the plate, helping lead the Kahoks team to a 4-0 record last week. He also pitched 6 innings and had 11 strikeouts in a 5-inning win against Civic Memorial. Additionally, Lemp had 1 hit and 3 RBI in a 10-0 win over Ladue and 2 homers and 5 RBI in a 10-0 victory over Staunton.
- Chase Lewis, Breese Central High School, senior, P/IF. Lewis had 3 hits and 3 RBI in a 15-0 win against Okawville. He also had 1 hit and 2 RBI in a 10-0 victory over Hillsboro.
- Lucas Riebeling, Columbia High School, junior, IF/P. Riebeling had 2 hits and 4 RBI in a 13-1 win over Breese Central.
