Olivia Hemmerle of Belleville East High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Softball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.

In recent action, Hemmerle, a sophomore pitcher, rang up 8 strikeouts while allowing just 3 hits in a 11-1 victory over Collinsville and then threw a complete-game 4-hitter in a 2-1 victory against Edwardsville.

Overall, Hemmerle — who secured 38% of the votes — entered the weekend with a 22-7 record and 1.67 earned run average while allowing just 146 hits and posting 182 strikeouts in 189 innings pitched for the Lancers (25-7-1 overall, 11-1 in the Southwestern Conference.

Here were the other candidates for the week of May 8-13:

  • Samaria Adams, Belleville West High School, senior. Adams had 3 hits and 2 RBI in a 16-2 victory over East St. Louis. The Maroons entered the week at 13-18 overall and 6-5 in the Southwestern Conference.

  • Jackie Amann, Mascoutah High School, senior. Amann had 5 hits and 2 RBI in a 20-10 victory against Waterloo. The Indians entered the week at 9-15 overall and 4-6 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

  • Sam Jarman, Triad High School, senior. Jarman had 4 hits along with 3 RBI in a 14-3 victory over Collinsville. The Knights entered the week at 13-11 overall and 5-5 in the Mississippi Valley Conference.

  • Samantha Roulanaitis, Freeburg High School, junior, P. Roulanaitis posted 16 strikeouts in a 16-3 win over Red Bud. She also had a HR and 5 RBI in a 12-2 win against Carlyle. The Midgets entered the week at 29-1 and they won the Cahokia Conference (Mississippi Division) with a 10-0 mark.

The poll ended at 8 a.m. Friday.
