Poll results: Waterloo Bulldogs senior BND Softball Player of the Week in southwest IL
Lilly Heck of Waterloo High School is the winner of this week’s Belleville News-Democrat Softball Player of the Week high school poll, as selected by readers of bnd.com.
In recent action, Heck, a senior, catcher and infielder, hit a HR and drove in 4 runs in a 6-4 victory against Nashville. Heck then had a HR and 2 RBI in a 6-2 victory over Granite City and another hit and an RBI in a 2-1 win against Edwardsville.
Overall, Heck — who secured 42% of the votes — is batting .373 with 4 home runs and 30 RBI for the Bulldogs, who take an 18-12 record into sectional action following Friday’s 7-0 win against Jerseyville in the regional championship.
Here were the other candidates for the week of May 15-20:
- Paige Froess, Columbia High School, sophomore, P. Froess allowed just 2 hits and struck out 8 while throwing a complete-game shutout in a 5-0 win against Mater Dei in the IHSA Class 2A Roxana Regional championship game. The Eagles entered sectional action this week at 18-11.
- Olivia Hemmerle, Belleville East High School, sophomore, P. Hemmerle unfurled a 2-hit complete game to go with 9 strikeouts collected 9 strikeouts in a 12-2 victory against Belleville East as the Lancers enter regional action this week at 25-7-1.
- Josie Lampe, Mater Dei Catholic High School, senior. Lampe hit a HR and had 3 RBI in a 11-1 win over Roxana in the IHSA Class 2A Roxana Regional semifinals. The Knights ultimately finished the campaign at 21-6.
- Samantha Roulanaitis, Freeburg High School, junior, P. Roulanaitis rang up 20 strikeouts and fired a no-hitter in a 6-0 win against Breese Central in the IHSA Class 2A Althoff Regional championship game. The Midgets entered sectional action this week at 31-1.
