5 players to watch at the Bank of O’Fallon Shootout
The Bank of O’Fallon Shootout will once again bring some highly-recruited high school basketball talent to the metro-east.
In addition, five of the top 10 ranked Class 4A teams in Illinois competing.
Top-ranked Chicago Curie is joined by No. 3 Collinsville, and Whitney Young (No. 6), plus Simeon and O’Fallon, which are tied for the No. 9 spot, in the two-day event.
The sixth annual event begins on Friday with three games, featuring defending Class 4A state champion Belleville West taking on host O’Fallon in a Southwestern Conference game beginning at 7 p.m.
Three of the top Chicago Public League powers, Curie, Whitney Young and Simeon, all featuring elite individual players, are on the ‘schedule on Saturday as four marquee games conclude the ‘2020 event.
Following are brief capsules on five of the top players for fans to keep an eye on during the sixth annual Bank of O’Fallon Shootout at O’Fallon High School.
DJ Steward, Whitney Young
A 6-3 combination guard, Steward is the No. 1 ranked player in the state and will play at Duke University. This is the second trip to the metro-east area in less than a month for Steward, who tied the scoring record at the Highland Shootout with 40 points in his much-anticipated showdown with North Carolina recruit Caleb Love of CBC.
Ramean Hinton, Curie
A top-100 ranked guard, Hinton is a 6-4 shooting guard and one of several NCAA Division I prospects on the Curie roster. Hinton signed with Southeast Missouri State in September.
Ahamad Bynum, Simeon
A super-quick guard, Bynum has combined with transfer Jeremiah Williams to give the Wolverines two of the top guards in the state. Bynum, only a junior has committed to DePaul University. Williams transferred from Chicago St. Laurence earlier this school year.
Detrick Reeves, Marion, Ark.
One of the top players on one of the top teams in Arkansas , Reeves is a 6-3 shooting guard with offers from Fresno State, New Mexico, SMU and Southern Mississippi.
Ray’Sean Taylor, Collinsville
Fresh off a week which saw him score 111 points and break the Collinsville record with a 53-point effort, the 6-1 Taylor is closing in on an even bigger record,, the Kahoks career scoring mark.
Taylor entered this week with 1,971 points, 70 shy of the 2,041 set by Kahoks legend Tom Parker (2,041). Parker, a 1968 Collinsville graduate went on to play at Kentucky under Adolph Rupp.

Tickets are still available at the Bank of O’Fallon and will also be sold at the gate. Tickets are $7 for Friday and $10 for Saturday. A two-day pass, good for all seven games, will be available for $15.
