Columbia, Mascoutah stars have big nights in full slate of metro-east football games

Week 5 of the metro-east football circuit kicked off Friday night. Here is a brief round-up of some local games.

Freeburg at Columbia

Dominic Voegele continued his outstanding season, throwing for one touchdown, rushing for two and kicking a field goal and three extra points in helping lift the Eagles to a 24-0 win against the Midgets.

The Eagles won their fourth-straight game while improving to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in the Cahokia (Mississippi) Conference. The Midgets fell to 3-2, 0-2.

Voegele fired a 21-yard touchdown pass to Brennan Weik and had touchdown runs of 3 and 73 yards while nailing a 33-yard field goal and a trio of extra points. Columbia’s defense, meanwhile, posted their second shutout of the campaign.

Both teams resume league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, as Freeburg visits Roxana and Columbia travels to Wood River.

Mattoon at Collinsville

The Kahoks cruised past the Green Wave 43-3 in posting their fourth straight victory to improve to 4-1.

Collinsville is back in action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at home against Granite City.

East Alton Wood River at Breese Central

Chase Lewis scored two touchdowns for the Cougars in leading them to a 21-6 Cahokia (Mississippi) Conference victory.

Lewis had a 2-yard rushing touchdown and also caught a 20-yard TD from Carter Deien, while Conner Freeze added a score on the ground for Breese Central.

The Cougars improved to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in league play, while the Oilers dropped to 4-1, 1-1.

Both teams again have league contests at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, with Breese Central visiting Salem and Wood River traveling to Columbia.

Sparta at Red Bud

The Musketeers put up 29 first quarter points and rolled to a 45-0 Cahokia (Illinois) Conference victory against the Bulldogs.

Red Bud is now 4-1 overall, 2-0 in league play. Sparta is 0-5, 0-2.

Both teams resume league action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, as the Musketeers visit Dupo and the Bulldogs host Wesclin.

Jerseyville at Mascoutah

The Indians rang up 35 first-half points and coasted to a 49-14 MVC win against the Panthers.

Mascoutah improved to 4-1 overall, 1-1 in league play, while the Panthers dropped to 2-3, 0-2.

Zane Timon had two rushing touchdowns for the Indians while also throwing touchdown passes of 95 and 21 yards to Quincy Hall. Timon also connected with Allen Middleton on 9-yard and 66-yard scoring strikes and Devon Parks added a rushing touchdown for the Indians.

Both teams resume MVC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, as Mascoutah visits Triad and Jerseyville visits Waterloo.

Waterloo at Civic Memorial

The Bulldogs rolled to a 40-0 victory over the Eagles while improving to 4-1 overall and 2-0 in conference play. CM dropped to 1-4, 0-2.

Both teams resume MVC action at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, as Waterloo hosts Jerseyville and Civic Memorial travels to Highland.

Carbondale at Cahokia

The Comanches improved to 2-3 overall, 1-1 in South Seven Conference action following a 46-6 win against the Terriers.

Cahokia continues league play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at home against Centralia.

Mater Dei at Quincy Notre Dame

The Knights dropped to 2-3 following a 35-14 loss to the Raiders.

Mater Dei next plays at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at DuQuoin.

Granite City at Peoria Notre Dame

The Warriors fell to 1-4 following a 40-14 loss to Peoria Notre Dame.

Granite City resumes play at 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 30, at Collinsville.

Saturday, Sept. 24

East St. Louis (2-2, 1-0 in the SWC) visits O’Fallon (4-0, 1-0) at 1 p.m.
