As crews worked around the clock in preparation for this week’s NFL Draft in Kansas City, so too did a camera on the 12th floor of a building near Union Station.

For more than two weeks, The Star’s visuals staff left a camera to capture more than 5,000 images to create a timelapse of the installation of the NFL’s Draft Theater in front of Union Station.

The NFL says the theater is just bigger than a football field at 378 feet long by 176 feet wide. The footprint for the entire draft is approximately 3.1 million square feet according to the NFL, making Kansas City home to the league’s largest-ever footprint for a draft.

Throughout the massive footprint, 7.5 miles of temporary fence lines have been erected as well as 1.5 miles of concrete barriers. To ensure the estimated crowd of 300,000 people know what’s happening on stage, 168 speakers and subwoofers have been installed throughout the grounds, and more than 10,000 square feet of video display boards will broadcast the first, second and third-round picks.
