Blues unveil new Winter Classic uniform. Where’s that familiar Blue Note?
The National Hockey League and Fanatics, the league’s outfitter, unveiled the Discover NHL Winter Classic uniforms to be worn when the St. Louis Blues face off with the Chicago Blackhawks at Wrigley Field on Dec. 31.
Both jerseys feature special details including city-specific elements in the necklines, and helmets, and the “NHL Winter Classic” designation on the bottom hem.
The Blues’ NHL Winter Classic uniform “pays homage to the city’s hockey heritage,” a joint press release stated.
For the first time since the Blues entered the league in 1967, they won’t be wearing the familiar Blue Note across the front of their sweaters. The design follows an unworn prototype proposed in 1966 with a blue stripe across the middle of the front with gold letters spelling out “St. Louis.”
A “newly designed vintage-style” Blue Note will appear on the shoulder jwith fleur-de-lis designs are included along the inside back neck and hem loop labels.
The Blackhawks also are introducing a new design for the Winter Classic.
The jersey features a classic lace-neck collar, reminiscent of hockey’s early days, complemented by a vintage cream color “that captures the nostalgic spirit of the Original Six era,” according to the release.
The front crest includes stars from the Chicago flag and the back numbers incorporate pinstripes, a nod to Chicago’s baseball teams.
Of course, the new styles are available for fans to purchase at STLAuthentics.com and will be available at the Blues’ Team Store at Enterprise Center.
St. Louis hosted the Winter Classic at Busch Stadium in 2017, when a sellout crowd watched the Blues defeat the Blackhawks, 4-1.
Live coverage of the Discover NHL Winter Classic on TNT and Max begins at 4 p.m. on Dec. 31.
