Man seen measuring home was legitimate inspector, police say
Police say a man who was taking measurements at a house in O’Fallon was a legitimate contractor.
An O’Fallon homeowner called police last week when the man was seen taking measurements at a home in northern O’Fallon. The homeowner became suspicious, prompting police to issue a warning to residents.
O’Fallon Police Sgt. Eric Andrew on Tuesday said police were able to determine the man was a home inspector hired by an insurance company. The homeowner was not aware that the insurance company had ordered the home inspection, Andrew said.
Andrew said the homeowner did the right thing in contacting police.
“The lesson is, better safe than sorry,” he said. “And if you’re a legitimate businessman, you should be prepared to be asked questions.”
