Second Starbucks to open in O’Fallon
Coffee fanatics rejoice: a new Starbucks is opening in O’Fallon.
The new coffee shop will be across the street from Wal-Mart at 1411 U.S. 50, near Orange Leaf and Papa Murphy’s. The building currently located there, which has been multiple restaurants over the years including Schiappa’s Restaurant and Luna, will be torn down. A new building will be built that will include Starbucks and another business that hasn’t been identified yet.
O’Fallon’s Economic Development department made the announcement on Facebook on July 13, a few weeks after the city council approved the construction project.
Walter Denton, city administrator, said the java joint will be a typical, fully-functioning Starbucks with a drive-thru.
O’Fallon currently has one Starbucks location at Green Mount Drive and I-64.
While Denton said he isn’t part of the process to decide what businesses open in the city, he wasn’t surprised about the decision for the second Starbucks.
“We have heard from the managers of the Starbucks on Green Mount that it is one of the busiest stores in the St. Louis metro area,” Denton said. “If you drive by, there’s always a line for the drive-thru.”
Hopefully customers will be able to get their caffeine fix a little more quickly by late fall or early winter when the new Starbucks is expected to be completed.
