Robbery reported at Belleville bank branch
A robbery was reported about midday Saturday at a Regions Bank branch on West Main Street in Belleville.
The robber was described as a black male in his late 20s to early 30s, about 6 feet tall with a heavier build. The suspect appeared to have facial hair, goatee-style, and was wearing a black baseball cap, white T shirt, and plaid pants, according to Belleville Police Master Sgt. Todd Keilbach.
Witnesses said the man walked into Regions Bank at 4800 W. Main St. about 11:19 a.m. and handed the teller a note demanding money, Keilbach stated.
The suspect handed the teller a bag and implied he had a handgun, Keilbach said. No gun was displayed.
The teller complied with the suspect’s demands and filled the bag with an undisclosed amount of money. He fled the bank in an undetermined direction. No one was injured.
A notice was posted on the bank’s door afterward, saying it was temporarily closed. There was crime-scene tape across the doorway, and Belleville police were at the scene.
Belleville detectives, along with FBI, were following leads Saturday. Police asked that anyone with information call the Belleville Police Department at 618-234-1212, or CrimeStoppers at 866-371-8477.
