This teen stole a bulldozer, then crushed a squad car with it, police say
A Kankakee County teenager allegedly took a slow joyride on a stolen bulldozer early Thursday morning.
Around 3 a.m., an off-duty police officer spotted a yellow bulldozer “spinning” in the middle of the road, Kankakee police said. An officer who came out to investigate attempted to stop the bulldozer, but the driver put it in reverse and backed up over the squad car, crushing the front of it. The officer was not injured.
When officers ran up to the bulldozer and broke a window, they were able to subdue the driver, identified as Austin D. White, of Bourbonnais. The 18-year-old was subdued with a stun gun, arrested and taken to the hospital, ABC 7 Chicago reported. He’s now facing criminal charges, according to the Kankakee Daily Journal.
As of Thursday evening, online court records did not show that charges had been filed.
Police say White stole the bulldozer from a Meijer construction site, the Daily Journal reported.
