Sheriff’s deputy asked for sexual act in exchange for not giving ticket, charges say
A St. Clair County sheriff’s deputy solicited a woman for a sexual act during a traffic stop in Cahokia, charging documents say.
Robert Sneed, 45, was conducting a traffic stop Feb. 16 when he asked a 49-year-old woman to perform a sexual act, in exchange for not getting a ticket or getting arrested, according to the charges.
He stopped the woman for vehicle registration violations.
Sneed was charged Aug. 31 with two counts of official misconduct and was arrested the day before. He has no other criminal record in St. Clair County. Further action will be taken after a grand jury reviews his case to make sure there is enough evidence to proceed with the case.
Sheriff Richard Watson said Sneed has been placed on paid administrative leave.
The deputy made $60,795.44 in 2016, according to the News-Democrat’s public pay database.
More information on Sneed’s arrest was not immediately available. Cahokia police did not respond for comment.
