Interstates ramp onto Poplar Street Bridge will close for six months

Commuters to and from St. Louis and Illinois may find their drives a little more frustrating for the next six months.

The on-ramp to the Poplar Street Bridge eastbound into Illinois on I-44/I-55 will close beginning at 9 p.m. Friday. The closing will last until February.

Crews are closing the ramp to rebuild and widen it as part of the Poplar Street Bridge Project. The two right lanes going eastbound on Poplar Street Bridge into Illinois will also close as crews replace the road’s surface.

Drivers will have to take the ramp-closure detour on eastbound I-44 to exit 293, turn right onto Tyler or Madison onto Broadway, turn right on Broadway, turn right on Cass and then across the Stan Musial Veterans Memorial Bridge.

Downtown drivers can use the 6th Street ramp onto eastbound I-64, I-255 to the south, I-270 to the north or take Tucker to the Stan Musial Veteran Memorial Bridge.

Two lanes will stay open on eastbound I-64 from 6th Street to Illinois 3 and the ramp from eastbound I-44 to Walnut street will also remain open.
