Two men rob teenager, Belleville police say; is crime tied to Fairview case?

Two men robbed a teenager Wednesday afternoon in the 700 block of North Charles Street, according to Belleville police.

The teenage boy told police he was walking along Charles Street when two men approached him, brandished a handgun and demanded his money, Belleville Police Master Sgt. Todd Keilbach wrote in a release.

The teenager complied and they then ran to a white Chevy Malibu before fleeing the area. No one was injured during the robbery.

The teenager described the first man as black, with facial hair and approximately 6-foot-3 with a thin build. He was wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and blue jeans, and carrying a black or gray handgun.

The second man was also black, according to the teenager. He was described as 5-foot-9 with a stocky build and shoulder-length dreadlocks. He was wearing a red collared shirt and jean shorts.

It was unclear Thursday whether police believe this robbery is connected to a similar robbery in Fairview Heights early Thursday morning.

Anyone with information is asked to call Belleville police at 618-234-1212 or Crimestoppers 866-371-8477.
