You can get away with only having a few dollars in your pocket on date night. But take $5 a bill just to be on the safe side.

Take in the Fire and Light Show at Union Station. It’s free at 1820 Market St., St. Louis, stlouisunionstation.com, 314-621-5262. A show runs at the top of the hour from 5 to 9 p.m. daily.

Try the pumpkin spice coffee for $1.59 at Wood Bakery, 115 W 1st St, O’Fallon, woodbakery.com, 618-632-5070. Grab a doughnut while you’re there for 65 cents plus tax.
Go for the $2 sangria at Seven Belleville, 7 S. High Street, Belleville, sevenbelleville.com, 618-277-6700. This red sangria special is available Thursdays.
Crazy about custard? Keep it simple with a scoop of chocolate or vanilla for $1, three dimes and one penny at Sheridan’s Frozen Custard, 5326 N Illinois St, Fairview Heights, sheridansfrozencustard.com, 618-233-9694.
Go wine tasting at the Weingarten, 1780 IL-15, Belleville, theweingarten.com, 618-257-9463. Tastings are offered from open to 6 p.m. Wednesday through Sunday for $3 for five samples.
Protip: There’s a chance your favorite hangout has a deliciously cheap item on the menu. Ask a server about the best night to come in the next time you’re there.
