Man found fatally shot in East St. Louis backyard
A man was found fatally shot in a backyard on the 700 block of N. 84th Street in East St. Louis on Monday.
Illinois State Police Lt. Tim Tyler said the man was found with a gunshot wound to the head Monday afternoon. East St. Louis police declined to comment on the shooting.
People were gathered on the street and in their nearby yards watching as police tape stretched across the porches of multiple homes, including 723 and 721 N. 84th St.
The St. Clair County coroner arrived at the scene around 4:40 p.m.
The friends of the man — said to be in his late 20s — who didn’t want to give their names, but said he did not live on the street where police were investigating.
“He didn’t bother a soul; he didn’t bother nobody,” one of them said.
An undamaged car was towed from 84th Street while police were investigating.
People were visibly upset at the scene of the incident, and at one point officers, put one man in a police car.
Scanner reports indicated police were still looking for an armed suspect around 4 p.m. Monday. Officers had searched for a suspect car until finding it at the owner’s residence in Cahokia.
