Police find body of Maryville man killed in motorcycle crash on interstate ramp
A missing man’s body was found Sunday morning after he died in a motorcycle accident Saturday night in Collinsville.
The man’s family called police when he didn’t come home on Saturday around 9 p.m., according to Marvyille Sgt. Brandon Ponce.
Illinois State Police officers pinged the man’s cell phone and found his body in grass near the Interstate 255 ramp onto I-55.
The man was driving a motorcycle northbound on the I-255 Saturday night when he veered off the road while riding a sharp curve and crashed into the grassy area nearby, Dye said. He was not wearing a helmet.
“(Because it was) dark and the grass being waist-high, it would have been impossible to see the body without a witness of the crash,” Dye said.
The man’s identity will be released by the St. Clair County Coroner’s office.
