Don’t Miss This: What was he thinking? Belleville West student brandishes fake gun

▪ School leaders and police are scratching their heads about why a Belleville West student thought it would be a good idea to wave a fake gun out the window of a car on his way to school Tuesday.

His action caused a major police response that ended with him being pulled over on the school’s driveway, surrounded by patrol cars, as other students arrived for classes.

He now faces possible discipline from the school system as well as potential legal problems.

▪ Police continue to look for a pair of juveniles blamed for attacking an robbing a female delivery driver in Belleville.

The attack happened Friday afternoon on Wabash Avenue.

The victim said she was approached by two males who asked her if she “had the food.” When she said she did, one of the suspects began to batter her and the other took her wallet.

▪ A Clinton County man faces attempted murder charges after allegedly firing a shot at a sheriff’s deputy.

Gary Walthes is jailed on $750,000 bail. He’s also facing several other felony counts and five tickets from the Department of Conservation for illegal hunting.

The charges came from an incident at his home that started when deputies arrived to serve a search warrant. They believed he was conducting a marijuana grow operation on his property. It eventually evolved into a short standoff before Walthes was taken into custody.
