Motorcyclist in critical condition after road-closing crash in Fairview Heights
A crash involving a motorcycle and a car closed the intersection of Frank Scott Parkway and Union Hill Road on Wednesday afternoon, according to police.
A Chevrolet Impala and a BMW motorcycle collided at the intersection shortly before 5 p.m.
Fairview Heights Police Officer James Mason said the motorcyclist was transported to Memorial Hospital with serious injuries. Police later said in a news release that the motorcycle driver, a 32-year-old male, was flown to Saint Louis University Hospital and is in critical condition. Police also said the driver was not wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.
The driver of the Impala, a 19-year-old female, was not injured but was taken to Memorial Hospital as a precaution. Police said she was treated and released.
The Metro East Crash Assistance Team was requested to assist police in the crash investigation, according to the news release. Fairview Fire Department also assisted on scene.
The cause of the accident is under investigation.
As of Wednesday night, police said the intersection would remain closed for the duration of the accident reconstruction.
