One arrested, two escaped after burglary near East St. Louis
St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office investigators said one person was arrested and two were being sought after a burglary was reported in an unincorporated area of East St. Louis on Sunday.
Investigator Scott Toth said deputies responded to the 2900 block of Trendley Avenue in reference to a burglary that was in progress. Authorities said a neighbor called police reporting “several suspects leaving a residence carrying items.” The caller gave a description of the suspect’s vehicle, which was broadcast out to other agencies. Shortly after the radio broadcast, Alorton police saw the vehicle getting onto the Popular Street Bridge, heading into St. Louis.
After a short pursuit into St. Louis, Toth said the driver of the vehicle stopped in the area of Tucker Street and Chouteau Avenue and that all of the people in the vehicle fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, Alorton police and St. Louis police apprehended a 26-year-old female driver.
Two males escaped on foot, carrying what appeared to be firearms, according to authorities.
The woman was taken to the St. Louis Justice Center where she was being held pending extradition back to Illinois. The case was presented to the St. Clair County States Attorney’s Office afterthe woman was extradited, and she was charged with two counts of fleeing and eluding police. She was released after posting bond at the county jail. The bail amount was set at $30,000.
Toth said Investigator James Hendricks, who would be handling the case, was following several leads as of Friday to identify and arrest the two male suspects.
