Two dead, two injured in Interstate 64 crash
Two women were pronounced dead early Friday and two others were sent to the hospital following a one-vehicle accident on Interstate 64 in Washington County.
The Washington County Coroner’s Office identified the deceased victims as 20-year-old Chelsea M. Dunn, of Mount Vernon, and 19-year-old Wilyssa B. Moore, of East St. Louis. Both were passengers in the vehicle.
The driver and another passenger were not identified.
The coroner’s office said it was called to the scene of the fatal wreck at 1:20 a.m. Friday on Interstate 64 at mile marker 54. Authorites had received a report of an older model Cadillac going off the roadway.
According to a news release, the Cadillac rolled and struck a tree on the south side of the interstate and came to a stop on its side.
Washington County Coroner Mark Styninger pronounced Dunn and Moore dead at the scene by 1:45 a.m. Friday. The office said both victims were sitting unrestrained in the back seat and were extricated from the vehicle by the Nashville Fire Department.
The coroner’s office said it did not perform an autopsy.
A male driver was airlifted from the scene to a St. Louis hospital, and a female passenger was taken to SSM Good Samaritan Medical Center in Mount Vernon.
The accident was being investigated by the Illinois State Police.
The Washington County Ambulance Service, Nashville Police Department and Washington County Sheriff’s Department also assisted on scene.
