Police seek to ID man in video; home possibly burglarized
The St. Clair County Sheriff’s Office said it’s seeking a “person of interest” who was seen on video outside a home that may have been burglarized.
Deputies were called to the 800 block of South 29th Street in unincorporated Belleville on July 30, according to Investigator Scott Toth.
The home surveillance video, submitted to authorities in multiple 20-second clips, shows a man walking around the residence multiple times on a rainy night, and at one point, holding what appeared to be smartphone with a flashlight as well as other items.
The homeowner told authorities that “several tools” were missing from his garage, which was unlocked. When he checked his home surveillance camera, he told authorities that he saw a person he didn’t know on the video. Deputies believe the video was captured late at night on July 29 or early July 30.
Investigators said they were trying to identify the person in the video by releasing the video clips to the public.
Anyone with information about the person’s identity is asked to contact Investigator Jeff Hartsoe at 618-825-5712. Anonymous tips can also be shared with the sheriff’s office.
