Suspects at large after attempted armed robbery at Shiloh gas station

Two men with a handgun allegedly tried to rob a Shiloh gas station early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Shiloh Police Department said two male suspects went into a Circle K store at 2411 Lebanon Ave. armed with a handgun at 5:09 a.m. Tuesday. Police said the suspects went into the store and toward the office area. A male clerk, who had been closer to the front of the store, fled out the front door.

Police said when the clerk left the gas station safely, the suspects also left on foot and were last seen going into a neighborhood south of the store. The suspects allegedly got into a dark-colored SUV and left the area.

Capt. Gary McGill said the suspects were in the gas station for “just a matter of seconds” before they fled.

“When they realized the clerk ran, they also ran,” McGill said.

Police said the suspects remained at large by 10 a.m. Tuesday.

The first suspect was described by police as a black male with a thin build, wearing a light gray hoodie, sunglasses, dark pants and dark shoes.

The second suspect was described by police as a black male with a thin build, wearing a red Tommy Hilfiger hoodie over a light ball cap, a bandana over his lower face, sunglasses, white gloves, red shoes and long dark shorts. Police said the second suspect was also carrying a black and brown large caliber handgun.

No injuries were reported.

McGill said police have so far been able to work off of surveillance video and video that was captured by a private citizen. The investigation was ongoing.
