Actor William Holden and Brenda Marshall exchange wedding vows
When two young Belleville men showed up at the O’Fallon Homecoming Association dance at Community Park on June 26, 1926 hoping to start trouble, they succeeded but probably not in the way they hoped.
After punching an O’Fallon boy, the locals ganged up on the visitors. “Special Officer Warhoover went into the thick of the mix-up and was accorded a stunning blow on the jaw but he held his grounds and necked the two trouble makers who were treated to a free night’s lodging in the police station.”
They ended up being fined by Justice of the Peace Earl Asbury $13.70 each for disorderly conduct.
One couldn’t pay and had to be “rescued” by his father who had been out of work 18 months.

Actor William Holden, 23, a native of O’Fallon, and actress Ardis Ankerson (stage name Brenda Marshall) from 1941., were married Sunday at Las Vegas, Nev.
The predawn ceremony at a nearby resort, culminated a romance of more than a year. The marriage was performed at 3 a.m. by the Rev. Charles Dunn.
Marshal was probably best known for her starring role opposite Errol Flynn in the 1940 Warner Bros.’ movie Sea Hawk.

Record-breaking temperatures seemed to be the order of the day for O’Fallon as the mercury continued its climb into the 100’s day after day.
Paved streets were showing signs of the heat and West State street at the mill overpass (just west of Oak) buckled Saturday night. Numerous reports were made of automobile windows and windshields shattering in the heat and there were a few small car fires in the area.
The O’Fallon swimming pool was operating at capacity with waiting lines common.
