Coroner hoping fingerprints can help ID East St. Louis shooting victim

An unidentified middle-aged man was fatally shot Tuesday night near Lincoln Park at the intersection of South 15th Street and Piggott Avenue.

The man was found at 9:45 p.m. and taken to a hospital in St. Louis, said East St. Louis Police Capt. Bobby Cole.

He died shortly after.

On Wednesday afternoon the shooting victim had not been identified by investigators, according to an official with the Saint Louis City Medical Examiner’s Office. Investigators hoped to determine his identity using his fingerprints by the end of Wednesday.

Police were still investigating the scene as of 11:30 p.m. Tuesday.
