Granite City man charged with hitting pedestrian while driving drunk
A Granite City man is accused of hitting a pedestrian while driving drunk, hitting another car and then fleeing the scene shortly before midnight Sunday.
According to Illinois State Police, Ryan S. Gaddy, 39, of Granite City was driving a 2003 white Chevrolet pickup truck north on Maryville Road near West Chain of Rocks Road at 11:56 p.m. Sunday when he allegedly struck a pedestrian who was walking in the same direction on the right side of the roadway.
The truck then struck an oncoming green Acura head-on. Police allege that Gaddy then fled the scene, but was later arrested.
The pedestrian was William W. Deion, 19, of Granite City. Police said he was injured but not incapacitated, and was not transported to a hospital. The driver of the other car also was not injured.
Gaddy is charged with driving under the influence, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, driving with a revoked license, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, and operation of an uninsured motor vehicle. He was not injured in the crash, police said.
