McKendree’s O’Keefe wins again on PWBA Tour, takes Lincoln Open title
McKendree University women’s bowling coach Shannon O’Keefe earned her second Professional Women’s Bowling Association (PWBA) Tour victory in the last two months as she rolled to the title at the Lincoln Open.
The finals of the tournament were broadcast earlier this week on CBS Sports Network.
O’Keefe, who was the top seed in the event, started strong and never looked back in defeating Clara Guerrero in the championship match, 252-203.
O’Keefe threw strikes in each of her first three frames and later tossed five in a row to help seal the win.
The victory netted O’Keefe her second PWBA tour triumph in the 2016 season.
She grabbed top honors in the Nationwide PWBA Sonoma County Open that was held in May.
The victory in the Lincoln Open also enabled O’Keefe to bounce back from a loss earlier this season to Guerrero in a television stepladder final show.
In the semifinals of the Go Bowling PWBA Players Championship in late June, Guerrero scratched out a very close 226-225 victory.
In addition to her success on the lanes, O’Keefe guided the McKendree women’s bowling program to its first-ever appearance in the NCAA Bowling Championship this past spring.
The Bearcats reached the national semifinals at the three-day tournament that was held in North Brunswick, N.J.
O’Keefe also led McKendree to its 12th consecutive appearance at the Intercollegiate Team Championships held in Wichita, Kan.
