Man shot, killed while getting out of his car marks 19th homicide this year in East St. Louis

A 25-year-old Cahokia man was shot and killed early Thanksgiving morning while exiting his car in the 1500 block of College Avenue in East St. Louis.

Anthony Taylor was shot multiple times around 1:42 a.m. and pronounced dead at 2:40 a.m. at Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville, according to St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr.

Case agent ISP Sgt. Elbert Jennings said East St Louis police received a call about the shooting on College Avenue at 1:42 a.m. and said another person was shot but survived.

A medical condition on the person shot was not immediately available.

“A group of people were arriving at a residence in the 1500 block of College. As one of the men was exiting a car, multiple gunshots were fired in his direction,” Jennings said.

Jennings said a police investigation is ongoing. Jennings said the shooting appears to be targeted because of the amount of gunfire.

Police said this is the 19th homicide they have investigated in East St. Louis this year.
