Coronavirus cases reported in 2 new St. Clair County care centers, health department says
The coronavirus has spread to two new long-term care centers in St. Clair County, the health department said Tuesday.
The Esquiline’s Dammert Center at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows and Cedars of Lebanon are the latest locations to be included in the county’s daily reports on coronavirus outbreaks.
The health department said each facility had two cases, the minimum amount to be considered an outbreak of the virus.
The Dammert Center is a skilled nursing facility at the Shrine, which is run by the Esquiline.
Brenda Fedak, spokeswoman for the health department, said Wednesday that the facility had reported one positive test result and one presumptive positive to health officials.
The Esquiline announced June 12 that one Dammert Center resident tested positive for COVID-19, caused by the coronavirus. That prompted widespread testing June 12-13. All Dammert Center residents and employees were negative at the time — including the resident who was previously positive, according to a June 16 news release from the Esquiline.
The health department reports any positive test results, regardless of a negative subsequent test, according to Fedak.
Mary Leiber, a spokeswoman for the Esquiline, said there were no positives among residents or employees at Dammert as of Tuesday.
Health officials provide daily updates on the long-term care centers and other developments in the county during 3:30 p.m. live streams by the St. Clair County Emergency Management Agency on Facebook.
