Perry County announces its first coronavirus-related death

St. Clair and Perry counties both announced new coronavirus-related deaths over the weekend.

In St. Clair County, the deaths included a man in his 70s with underlying health conditions and a woman in her 60s with no known underlying health conditions.

Perry County health officials announced the county’s first death, a woman in her 50s. The health department did not release whether the woman had underlying health conditions.

Overall, the region saw 90 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday and Sunday combined.

Illinois has seen a total of 6,888 deaths during the pandemic as of Sunday, officials reported. A total of 141,723 people have been diagnosed with the coronavirus, while nearly 1.5 million people have been tested for COVID-19.
