Updates on 2 Belleville store projects, plus a new restaurant is coming to Madison County
Great news for folks in the east end of Belleville.
Dollar Tree at 656 Carlyle Ave. reopened Thursday, according to store manager Vikki Whitton.
Whitton said that when the doors opened at 9 a.m. about 30 people were waiting to come inside.
This location closed in mid-February for an expansion project that joined the original 8,500-square-foot store with the adjoining suite, bringing the store’s footprint to nearly 14,400 square feet.
Dollar Tree at Carlyle Plaza first opened in January 2014 in a former Fashion Bug clothing store site.
Hours for Dollar Tree are 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. Monday-Saturday and 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Sunday.
For more information, call the store at 618-509-6952 or visit dollartree.com.

On the west end of town, it looks like things are happening with the new DG Market at 2100 W. Main St.
I recently reported that a spokesperson for Dollar General’s public relations team stated that the company was still in its due diligence phase for the new store.
However, there’s some activity at the site involving the moving of some dirt and gravel.
A voice message left for Economic Development Director Clifford Cross asking for any new details was not immediately returned.

In other news, I’ve had a recent smattering of phone calls asking when the St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is opening in Fairview Heights.
The Fairview Heights Land Use and Economic Development Facebook page posted a notice that there will be a grand opening and ribbon cutting at the new store at 9 a.m. Monday, July 8.
I sent a message to National Store Support Manager Jim Conley to find out more info, including store hours, but haven’t heard back yet.
Conley previously wrote in an email to the BND that the store will open around the second week of July. He also stated that donations are accepted from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store is located at 10850 Lincoln Trail, Suite 2, in Fairview Heights, next to Chuck E. Cheese.

I also learned that Highland will soon get a new Japanese restaurant.
A Facebook page was recently created for Lapo Hibachi, Sushi & Ramen, which will be located at 821 Poplar St.
A recent Barber Murphy real estate transactions list includes the leasing of a 2,809-square-foot medical office building to MAC MAE, LLC (Kasabi, Hibachi, Sushi and Ramen).
There are similar restaurants in the area for Pusaka Hibachi, Sushi & Ramen (Granite City) and Kakashi Hibachi & Sushi Express (Wood River).
It is not yet clear if those restaurants are connected to the coming Highland location.
I reached out to the email address provided on the restaurant’s Facebook page and am awaiting a response. Hopefully I’ll have more details soon.
