Clinton County sheriff releases name of woman killed in crash off U.S. 50
A 26-year-old woman from rural Carlyle died in a single-vehicle crash early Wednesday, the Clinton County sheriff said.
Hazel S. Huels was found dead in a Toyota SUV that crashed off U.S. 50 near Jolliff Bridge Road in Shattuc, Sheriff Dan Travous said in a news release.
A 911 caller stated at 12:43 a.m. that he heard “what he thought may have been a crash,” according to the news release.
First responders found Heuls inside the Toyota in a field, Travous said.
Huels apparently was driving east on U.S. 50 and left the roadway to the south, just west of Jolliff Bridge Road.
“The vehicle continued east in the ditch until striking a culvert, causing the vehicle to roll an unknown” number of times, according to the news release.
Huels apparently was the only occupant of the SUV.
Travous said deputies do not know what caused the Toyota to leave the roadway.
