Police release name of metro-east bicyclist fatally struck in St. Louis County

An 85-year-old Dupo man was fatally struck by a vehicle while riding a bicycle in St. Louis County, police said Friday.

David Crawford, of the 100 block of North Seventh Street in Dupo, was identified as the victim, according to a news release from the St. Louis County Police Department.

Crawford was in the 9900 block of Big Bend Boulevard near Grant’s Trail when he was hit on Thursday.

Police officers responded to the scene at 12:27 p.m. Thursday. The victim, later identified as Crawford, was taken to an area hospital, where he died from his injuries.

No other details about the collision have been released.

St. Louis County Police Department Bureau of Crimes Against Persons and Accident Reconstruction detectives are investigating Crawford’s death.

Crawford is the second metro-east bicyclist to be fatally hit this week.

A 22-year-old Fairmont City man died after he was hit by a tow truck in St. Clair County early Friday.

Also, a 14-year-old boy riding a bicycle was injured in a collision with a vehicle Tuesday afternoon on East B Street after entering the roadway from the MetroBikeLink trail in Belleville. The teen was hospitalized for treatment.
