Savannah-based retailer CitiTrends plans to open a new location in Belleville at 4519 W. Main St., the former site of a Veterans Affairs office and Southwestern Illinois WorkNet employment agency.

According to the CitiTrends website, the Belleville store is scheduled to open Friday, Feb. 20. CitiTrends offers “fresh and fashionable merchandise” including the latest trends in clothing, shoes, accessories and home décor, primarily for African American families, according to the company’s website.

Chief Executive Officer Ken Seipel detailed the company’s expansion plans during its third-quarter 2025 earnings call in December.

In 2026, “we plan to open about 25 new stores, followed by at least 40 stores per year in 2027 and onward,” he said, raising the store count to around 650 by the end of 2027.

During its third quarter, CitiTrends remodeled 24 stores, including 15 high-traffic locations. Year to date, 62 stores were remodeled. CitiTrends will continue remodeling around 50 stores a year.

CitiTrends was founded in 1946 and has more than 500 stores in 33 states. Area locations include 1210 Camp Jackson Road in Cahokia Heights and 17-B Plaza Drive in Fairview Heights.
