Barbecue, burgers, brunch and more: Cupio’s prepares to open in Belleville
Cupio’s in Belleville is set to welcome—and feed—customers at the former Steak n’ Shake location at 4320 W. Main St.
Doors open at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, with grand opening festivities beginning at 1 p.m.
Originally scheduled to open in November, restaurant manager Laila Toms said the wait for important licenses and certifications was longer than expected.
There was also an issue with one of the site’s boilers, she said, adding that it wouldn’t be ideal for customers to dine in a cold restaurant.
Although the restaurant is ready to open, plans to offer video gaming remain delayed. Toms said she does not know when they’ll get licensing for the machines, but they are coming.
The restaurant’s owners wanted to open last week, but a snowstorm forced a delay.
Toms said in November that people were already stopping by the restaurant, thinking it was open. She said this week that people are calling to book tables for opening day.
Cupio’s menu will feature barbecue—ribs, pork steaks, brisket, snoots and more—fried chicken, fish, sandwiches, burgers, appetizers and more. Brunch items will be available from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Online ordering will soon be available via apps such as DoorDash. Toms said they are in the process of linking delivery partners to their website, which will launch soon.
West Belleville is seeing more restaurant options
Restaurants are making a comeback on Belleville’s west side.
The Roundabout Bar & Grill, which will offer authentic Filipino cuisine, American fare, a soup and salad bar and more, will soon open at 104 W. Main St.
Owners David and Jeanny Hite and Jason Buss are close to opening at the former Pitchers Sports Pub & Pizzeria. Their requests for a liquor license, outdoor seating and sign installation were approved by the city on Monday.
Buss previously said they hope to be open for bar service by St. Patrick’s Day.
Also opening this year is Mac’s on Main/Olga’s, which will be located at 4204 W. Main St. in the former 4204 Main Street Brewing Company.
Owner Rob Lenhardt told the News-Democrat in December that he was in the process of acquiring the properties at 4204 and 4130 W. Main St.
He was already planning to open Mac’s on Main, a new location for his original business, Mac’s Downtown Alton, when Olga’s Kitchen approached him about a partnership.
“I thought it would be good for business. It fit the overall business model for me,” Lenhardt said.
Other restaurants that opened in west Belleville in the past year include I Don’t Know Restaurant & Grill at 4004 W. Main St., and Banana Leaf Thai Cuisine, 3030 Frank Scott Parkway West, Suite 11.
