Illinois’ unemployment rate has seen a slight increase recently, rising from 5% to 5.1% from February to March, the most recent months for which preliminary data is available from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. Unemployment has increased in Illinois each month since December.
From conservation work to positions in healthcare, there are a variety of listings available from the state. Here’s what to know about Illinois state government positions available in the metro-east.
Conservation/historic preservation worker
Agency: Illinois Department of Natural Resources
Wage: $19.56 per hour anticipated starting pay, up to $3,404 monthly based on hours worked
Location: Hartford

Minimum qualifications for this position include “knowledge, skill and mental development” equivalent to the completion of eight years of elementary school, the listing says.
Job responsibilities include, according to the listing:
- “Under immediate supervision and on a temporary basis not to exceed 6 months, assists site staff in the maintenance of grounds to create clean, safe, and attractive public use areas during all weather conditions.
- Performs routine housekeeping duties.

Wage: $7,423 monthly anticipated starting pay

Minimum qualifications for this position include graduation from an approved nursing education program with an associate or a diploma degree in nursing and three years of professional nursing experience or, a bachelor’s degree in nursing and two years of professional nursing experience or, a master’s degree in nursing, the listing says. Minimum qualifications for the social worker IV position include a master’s degree in social work from a recognized school of social work in addition to three years of supervised post master’s clinical social work practice and possession of a clinical social worker’s license from the Department of Professional Regulation, the listing says.
