Schlafly Brewpub in Highland temporarily closes due to staffing. Here are the details
Less than 10 days after opening, Highland’s newest brewpub had to temporarily close for staffing issues.
The Schlafly Brewpub opened Wednesday, Dec. 22, on the Highland town square, but announced within a week they needed to close until Sunday, Jan. 2. Employees confirmed it was a staffing issue, which has been a frequent concern for metro-east restaurants in recent months.
An employee with the Highland Schlafly facility confirmed Sunday night, Jan. 2, the business had reopened. The individual said she did not expect any additional closures in the future.
The official grand opening was slated for Sunday, Dec. 26, with Schlafly Beer founders Tom Schlafly and Dan Kopman in attendance.
Schlafly Highland Square is located in a 71-year-old building that once house the Highland Chamber of Commerce. Its renovation into a brewpub was part of a major redevelopment project on the town square, which also involved additional park space and facilities.
Employees at Schafly’s primary location in St. Louis confirmed the Highland location was expected to reopen Sunday. However, a sign posted on the door earlier had indicated the location needed restocking and would reopen Thursday, Dec. 29.
Schlafly Highland Square offers the brewpub’s signature menu items and 14 Schlafly beer styles on draft, as well as a “Highland lager” brewed exclusively for the Highland location. The new location’s opening coincided with the Schlafly brewery’s 30th anniversary.
Temporary closures for supply shortages and staffing problems have plagued area restaurants, including the Hop House in O’Fallon.
