O’Fallon boys tennis team has busy week of action on court
The O’Fallon High School boys tennis team dropped a recent 6-3 decision to Belleville East in Southwestern Conference action.
At No. 1 singles, O’Fallon’s Gavin Sohn fell to RJ Miksell 6-2, 7-5, while Kaden Vollmer fell to Belleville East’s Ben Harris 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. O’Fallon’s Nic Strobel posted a 7-5, 6-1 verdict against Britton Struewing at No. 3 singles, while the Panthers’ Cameron Woll fell 6-4, 6-4 to Roman Mills at No. 4 singles.
At No. 5 singles, Ethan Moeller defeated O’Fallon’s Rowen Brunner 6-3, 6-3 and, at No. 6 singles, Aiden Gillen got past Ben VanAlstine of OTHS 7-5, 6-1.
In doubles action, Struewing and Harris defeated Strobel and Kolmer 8-5 at No. 1; Sohn and VanAlstine took down Miksell and Moeller 8-4 at No. 2; and Woll and Brunner defeated Mills and Gillen 8-2 at No. 3.
“We had a very close match with East — we were right there,” OTHS coach Erin Thoman said.
Then, on Thursday, April 21, the Panthers defeated Olney 6-3.
“It was a good match,” Thoman said.
O’Fallon followed that outcome with a 6-3 loss to John Burroughs.
“It was great competition and we had good matches,” Thoman said.
On Saturday, April 23, Thoman’s team knocked off Carbondale 4-0, O’Fallon 4-0 and Effingham St. Anthony 4-0 at Troy Park.
“The boys played well,” she said.
