The O’Fallon High School boys tennis team enjoyed a productive visit to the northwest suburbs of Chicago on Thursday, May 26, and Friday, May 27, for the IHSA Class 2A state tournament.

In singles competition, Gavin Sohn won 6-0, 6-3 and 8-4 to finish 2-2 at state. Meanwhile, the doubles team of Kaden Vollmer and Nic Strobel posted wins of 6-3, 6-3 and 8-5 while also finishing 2-2 overall.

Needless to say, those performances pleased Panthers coach Erin Thoman.

“Gavin & Kaden/Nic won their first rounds, which was great so that was four team points right there. To get two wins in 2A at the state tournament is really good — especially with first round wins in there,” she said.

Overall, the Panthers finished 22nd at state with six points, five slots behind Edwardsville (17th, eight points) and six slots ahead of Belleville East (28th, four points) to round out the Southwestern Conference’s showing. Overall, OTHS finished 20-4 this spring.

“Congrats on a great season boys!” Thoman said.
