Car chase in Belleville was linked to Edwardsville homicide, major case squad says
An early morning car chase that started Friday in Belleville and ended in downtown St. Louis led to the arrest of a person of interest possibly involved in the death of a man found in Edwardsville on Tuesday, police said.
The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis was activated this week after a St. Louis man, Scott David Brown, 43, was found dead near Poag Road and Illinois 111. Authorities launched an investigation when police said they suspected foul play.
Members of the Major Case Squad tried to contact a person of interest in Belleville as part of the investigation around 9 a.m. Friday. The person fled in a vehicle from a Belleville home.
According to police, the vehicle led several law enforcement agencies on a high speed chase. The driver ultimately surrendered in the 1800 block of Cole Street in St. Louis. The driver was arrested and is being held on unrelated charges.
Police did not release the person’s identity.
In a statement, police asked anyone who might have information on Brown’s death to contact the Major Case Squad at 618-307-1611.
Over 27 investigators from different agencies are following up on numerous leads.
According to a news release from Capt. David Vucich of the Madison County Sheriff’s Department, Brown was known to frequent the Collinsville, Edwardsville and Caseyville areas and regularly used the local bus lines to get around.
