One killed in his car, another wounded after shooting in East St. Louis
The driver is dead and the passenger is in a St. Louis-area hospital with multiple bullet wounds after an unknown gunman opened fire into a car in East St. Louis Thursday.
St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye Sr. identified the deceased driver as Brian Jackson, 32, of the 6800 block of North Park Drive in East St. Louis.
Jackson was pronounced dead at the scene of the incident in the 2900 block of Missouri Avenue at 1:14 a.m. The condition of the wounded passenger, a female, was not immediately available.
East St. Louis Police Sgt. Cantrell Patterson said the gunman pulled alongside Jackson and began shooting into the car. The suspect then sped away from the scene. Police have not located the suspect.
”We are currently looking for the suspect and are encouraging anyone who may have some information that would help us to call the police,” Patterson said.
Patterson said police received the call at 12:03 a.m. Officers were at the scene within three minutes, he said.
”When officers arrived on scene in the 2900 block of Missouri Avenue they located the victim in a car and found an injured female and a second female who was a passenger in Jackson’s vehicle in the field south of the vehicle,” Patterson said.
East St. Louis and Illinois State police are in the early stages of their investigation, Patterson said.
