East St. Louis man shot in the hand as he walked to his car, police say
A 37-year-old East St. Louis man said he was shot Monday morning while he was walking to his car after leaving a nightclub in East St. Louis.
Police were dispatched to Touchette Regional Hospital in Centreville in reference to a gunshot victim.
East St. Louis Police Capt. Cantrell Patterson said the victim told police he had just left a nightclub and was walking east near the 600 block of Dr. Martin Luther King Drive. Before he reached his car, the man saw a group of people that he did not know engaged in an argument, police said.
“He said as he was walking, he suddenly heard gunshots and he dove to the ground,” Patterson said.
When the gunfire stopped, the victim said he got up and noticed his right hand was bleeding. When he took a closer look, he realized he had been shot,” Patterson said.
The man’s condition was not immediately known
