14-year-old arrested for shooting 18-year-old in Belleville, police say

A 14-year-old has been charged with two felonies after police said he shot an 18-year-old in Belleville.

Belleville Police and detectives responded Wednesday to the 900 block of Wabash Avenue on the report that someone had been shot. At the scene, police found the 18-year-old male with a gunshot injury to the leg with an unharmed 16-year-old.

Emergency Medical Services took the 18-year-old to a St. Louis hospital for treatment. His injuries were non-threatening, police said.

Police say the two teenagers were walking on Wabash when they met up with another group of teenagers that included the suspect.

Police say the 14-year-old fired shots at the two and struck the 18-year-old in the leg and as well as a house on the 800 block of Wabash. No one in the home was injured.

Police said detectives identified and arrested the 14-year-old Thursday. The juvenile was taken into custody without incident and is being held at the St. Clair County Juvenile Detention Center pending review by the St. Clair County State’s Attorney’s Office.
