Major Case Squad disbanded in Belleville murder without making an arrest

The Major Case Squad of Greater St. Louis has been disbanded after working six days to investigated the death of Tyress Wilson in unincorporated Belleville.

The unit brought together 22 investigators from area police agencies early last Friday when Wilson, 31, was found dead in the yard of a residence on Eastland Drive. They completed an extensive number of interviews and gathered numerous leads, St. Clair County Sheriff’s Capt. Bruce Fleshren said.

Fleshren said the case is being returned to the St. Clair County Sheriff’s Department for continued investigation.

“No one has been charged,” Fleshren said.

St. Clair County Coroner Calvin Dye, Sr. said Wilson, whose last known address was in the 800 block of Virginia Avenue in Belleville, was homeless at the time of his apparent murder, but his mother since confirmed he was living with her.

Dye said Wilson was declared dead at the scene at 7:57 a.m.
