Madison County police seek truck involved in hit-and-run that reportedly killed a child

Police are searching for a vehicle that reportedly struck and killed a child in Godfrey on Monday afternoon, authorities said.

The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said in a statement at around 3:30 p.m. a child was struck by a 2007-2013 silver or gray GMC Sierra Truck at the intersection of West Delmar and Pine Grove Lane in Godfrey.

Police said the child had died before they arrived on scene and that a preliminary investigation revealed the driver of the vehicle pulled over briefly after hitting the child and then left the scene.

No other details on the child have been released.

The sheriff’s department is asking anyone with information to call 618-692-4422 or 618-296-300 if they wish to remain anonymous.
