Belleville Police investigating second fatal shooting of holiday weekend
Belleville police are investigating the city’s second fatal shooting in three days.
A woman is in custody following the death of a man who was found with a gunshot wound near the entrance of a home in the 600 block of State Street, according to a police department news release.
Officers and emergency medical services responded to the scene at about 8:19 p.m. Monday. Efforts to save the man were unsuccessful, the release stated.
Authorities have not released the identities of the victim or suspect.
“At this point in the investigation, this appears to be an isolated incident involving family members and Belleville Police Department is not seeking any other suspects,” the release stated.
The Belleville Police Department’s investigations division conducted multiple interviews with witnesses who were at the scene. The woman is being held at the police department Monday night, according to the release.
“Our thoughts and prayers go out to all who were affected by the tragic event that occurred this evening,” police said.
